SUMMARY:14th Annual Illinois Statewide Transition Conference
DESCRIPTION:The "Stepping Stones of Transition" conference shares services 
 and resources available to prepare for success in adulthood.\n\nThe statew
 ide transition conference\, titled "Stepping Stones of Transition\," high
 lights the opportunities and resources available for youth and young adult
 s with special healthcare needs as they transition to adulthood. It will 
 take place Oct. 25-26 at The Westin Chicago Northwest in Itasca.\n\nThe co
 nference is aimed at youth\, parents\, caretakers\, vocational professiona
 ls\, healthcare professionals\, educators and so on. Participants are invi
 ted to discuss the possibilities for students with disabilities in the ar
 eas of independent living\, education and training\, employment\, communit
 y integration\, health care and self-advocacy.\n\nYouth and young adults w
 ith special healthcare needs will learn how to plan for their future\, inc
 luding:\n\n 	What happens after I leave high school?\n 	How do I sort thro
 ugh the maze of resources?\n 	What steps can I take now to prepare for upc
 oming changes?\n 	What skills are important for me to develop?\n\nThis yea
 r's conference will feature the Family Oasis Resource Room that will be st
 affed by "veteran" family members who have experienced their child's trans
 ition. Families will have the opportunity to relax and share valuable insi
 ghts with others who are/were in their shoes.\n\nMore information\, inclu
