SUMMARY:2022 Institute for Parents of Preschool Children Who Are Deaf or Ha
 rd of Hearing
DESCRIPTION:&nbsp\;\n\nFree\, one-week program providing support and inform
 ation for families of children with hearing loss\n\nThe Institute for Pare
 nts of Preschool Children Who Are Deaf or Hard of Hearing is a one-week pr
 ogram for parents of children ages 7 and under who have a significant hear
 ing loss. It takes place on the campus of the Illinois School for the Deaf
  in Jacksonville from June 12-17\, 2022.\n\nParticipating parents and care
 givers will attend daily lectures by experts in the field to learn about r
 aising a child with hearing loss.  Lecture topics include:\n\n 	Child dev
 elopment\n 	Types of hearing loss\n 	Language development\n 	Communication
  choices\n 	Hearing aids and cochlear implants\n 	Deaf culture\n 	Parent r
 ights\n 	School programming\n\nDuring the Institute\, children attend clas
 srooms overseen by experienced teachers of children who are deaf or hard o
 f hearing. They have the opportunity to receive hearing\, vision\, psycho
 logical\, speech\, language and educational evaluations as well as play w
 ith other children who have a hearing loss.\n\nSiblings who are 12 and und
 er are welcome to attend.  There is no cost for families to participate.
