SUMMARY:2023 Institute for Parents of Preschool Children Who Are Deaf or Ha
 rd of Hearing
DESCRIPTION:A free\, one-week program providing support and information for
  families of young children with hearing loss\n\nThe Institute for Parents
  of Preschool Children Who Are Deaf or Hard of Hearing is a one-week progr
 am for parents of children ages 7 and under who have significant hearing l
 oss. It takes place on the campus of the Illinois School for the Deaf in J
 acksonville from June 11-16\, 2023.\n\nParticipating parents and caregiver
 s will attend daily lectures by experts in the field to learn about raisin
 g a child with hearing loss.  Lecture topics include:\n\n 	Child developm
 ent\n 	Types of hearing loss\n 	Language development\n 	Communication choi
 ces\n 	Hearing aids and cochlear implants\n 	Deaf culture\n 	Parent rights
 \n 	School programming\n\nDuring the Institute\, children attend classroom
 s with experienced teachers of children who are deaf or hard of hearing. T
 hey have the opportunity to receive hearing\, vision\, psychological\, spe
 ech\, language and educational evaluations. They also can play with other 
 children who have hearing loss.\n\nSiblings are also welcome to attend. Th
 ey can stay with their families in the dorms and go to recreational activi
 ties.  There is no cost for families to participate.\n\nUIC’s Division
  of Specialized Care for Children (DSCC) supports the Institute along with
