SUMMARY:YMCA Camp Independence of Metro Chicago
DESCRIPTION:Overnight camp for children and young adults with spina bifida
 .\n\nCamp Independence is run by the YMCA of Metro Chicago in association
  with the Illinois Spina Bifida Association. Camp Independence is specific
 ally designed for children and young adults with spina bifida. The 2018 ca
 mp sessions start June 10.\n\nCampers have fun while climbing the tower\, 
 singing around the campfire\, paddling a boat\, and making new friends. Ca
 mpers develop special relationships with each other and their counselors. 
 For many campers\, this may be their first chance to spend a night away fr
 om home. All campers are encouraged to become active participants in their
  own care as well as their continued development of independence. Campers 
 are shown that even though they have a disability\; they can be anything t
 hey want to be and are provided with an environment where they can be succ
 essful.\n\nCamp Independence offers many different activities that promote
  confidence\, cooperation and are fun. Sessions are divided by age group\,
  allowing the staff to provide age-appropriate programming.\n\nSome activi
 ties might include swimming\, arts and crafts\, hockey\, boating\, campfir
 e\, high ropes\,  basketball\, bocce ball\, climbing tower\, drama\, sin
