DESCRIPTION:\n\n\nFree\, in-person workshop exploring the impact of trauma 
 on playing and learning in children with disabilities\n\nJoin STAR NET Reg
 ion II and the  La Grange Area Department of Special Education (​LADSE)
  for "The Intersection of Trauma\, Play and Learning" on Jan. 29 from 9 a.
 m. to 3 p.m. Check-in will be from 8:30 to 9 a.m.\n\nSTAR NET Region II se
 rves north and west suburban Cook\, DuPage\, Kane\, Lake\, and McHenry cou
 nties.\n\nAdverse childhood experiences and traumatic events are associate
 d with neurological changes that impact behavior\, development and learnin
 g. Children with disabilities are at a higher risk of experiencing trauma 
 than their non-disabled peers. Play can indicate trauma and can also help 
 with providing trauma-informed care.\n\nOccupational therapist and child d
 evelopment specialist Jennifer Rosinia will help workshop participants exp
 lore the stress response system and its impact on play and learning.\n\nDr
 . Rosinia will discuss topics including:\n\n\n\n\n\n 	Defining trauma (inc
 luding medical trauma\, which some children with disabilities have experie
 nced)\n 	Listing impacts of trauma on development and learning\n 	Identify
 ing the impact of trauma as seen through the ways a child plays\n 	Practic
 ing social-emotional intervention strategies while playing\n 	Promoting ho
 pe and healing\n\nThe workshop is open to family members\, educators\, soc
 ial workers\, therapists and other family service providers.\n\nVisit the
