 isease\, caregivers\, researchers and health providers highlighting the la
 test successes and challenges of helping people with sickle cell disease t
 hrive throughout all stages of life\n\nSeptember is National Sickle Cell A
 wareness Month.\n\nJoin UI Health and other organizations for the sixth an
 nual Chicago Sickle Cell Summit on Sep. 28 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.\n\nThis 
 year's summit theme is Thriving with Sickle Cell Disease: Optimizing Care 
 Through all Stages of Life." It will highlight the latest trends\, success
 es\, challenges\, and barriers to propelling the lives of people with sick
 le cell disease beyond survival/sustenance to thriving.\n\nThe summit will
  feature keynote speaker Dr. Wanda Whitten-Shurney.  She is the CEO and m
 edical director of the Michigan chapter of the Sickle Cell Disease Associa
 tion of America (SCDAA) and cared for children living with sickle cell dis
 ease at Children’s Hospital of Michigan for the past 30 years. Her late 
 father was a co-founder of the national SCDAA and a pioneer in sickle cell
  education and outreach.\n\nOther topics and speakers will include:\n\n 	G
 enetics and the foundations of care with speakers Kay Saving\, Marwah Faro
 oqui and Lewis Hsu\n 	Emerging care\, medicines and treatments with speake
