SUMMARY:Virtual Summer Youth Vocational Program
DESCRIPTION:&nbsp\;\n\nInnovative\, six-week employment training experience
  for youth ages 16-22.\n\nIn response to COVID-19\, the Helen Keller Natio
 nal Center for Deaf-Blind Youths and Adults (HKNC) is addressing the acces
 s that young adults with combined vision and hearing loss have to services
  provided under the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA).\n\nTh
 e center's Virtual Summer Youth Vocational Program (SYVP) offers Pre- Empl
 oyment Transition Services\, established through WIOA\, and prepares trans
 ition-age youth for competitive and integrated employment during social di
 stancing.\n\nParticipants will virtually join peers ages 16 to 22 from aro
 und the country for this innovative\, six-week experience. The Virtual SYV
 P will offer opportunities to gain knowledge and experience in the followi
 ng areas:\n\n 	Vocational Exploration\n 	Self-Determination\n 	Advocacy\n 
 	Communication Methods\n 	Worksite Orientation &amp\; Mobility\n 	Assistiv
 e Aids &amp\; Devices\n 	Interviewing &amp\; Employment Skills\n\nThe prog
 ram's second session goes from July 20 to Aug. 28.\n\nThe program cost is 
 $625 per week.\n\nParticipants will gain self-awareness through the proces
 s of gathering information about their interests\, abilities and values.\n
 \nThey will explore the “world of work” through the distribution of in
 formation of a variety of career options and associated criteria. As a res
 ult of their discoveries through self-awareness and “world of work\,” 
 participants will narrow potential career options supported by informed de
 cision-making.\n\nVirtual SYVP aims to provide the following outcomes:\n\n
  	Learn from competitively employed deaf-blind mentors and peer experience
 s\n 	Develop an understanding of work through virtual worksite tours and i
 nformational interviews\n 	Increase self-awareness of personal strengths/i
 nterests through the SYVP seven focus areas\n 	Identify future skill-build
 ing goals and develop an action plan to meet those goals\n 	Prepare for in
 terview-readiness through the development of a work portfolio and practice
  interviews\n 	Learn about universal precautions for work safety during CO
 VID-19\n\nPrior to the beginning of the program\, HKNC staff will assess t
 echnology available to the participant to determine the best instruction m
 odality that would ensure full access to information and instruction.  In
 struction may be provided by telephone\, iPhone\, iPad\, email\, computer\
 , videophone\, FaceTime\, Zoom meetings and/or Google Classroom.\n\nMore d
