Ch ildren with selective mutism are often very chatty at home and then become uncharacteristically quiet in school or in public.\n\nExposure tasks (e.g .\, speaking exposures) can reduce mutism and increase speaking by activat ing extinction learning\, a process that helps build a more positive assoc iation between speaking and the feared outcome.\n\nThis webinar will focus on helping participants understand the extinction learning process and ho w to use speaking exposures to support a child's ability to speak in a var iety of settings.\n\nParticipants will explore:\n\n Recognizing selective mutism as an anxiety disorder\n Extinction learning and how it can suppo rt a child's ability to speak\n Introducing the concept of exposure tasks to reduce mutism\n\nSee the webinar series flyer for more details.\n\nSig n up online to attend.
