    The city of Springfield provides a list of community resources available during the COVID-19 pandemic, including public computer labs, mortgage and housing assistance, unemployment, rent assistance, virtual career support, emotional support, payment assistance and family assistance.

  • Civil Rights and School Reopening in the COVID-19 Environment

    Helping schools reopen safely and in ways that support equity among students is a top priority for the Department of Education. The purpose of this question-and-answer document is to help students, families, schools, and the public support all students’ rights in educational environments, including in elementary and secondary schools and postsecondary institutions, during the COVID-19 pandemic.

    The guidance addresses schools’ responsibilities to students with disabilities in remote, hybrid and in-person situations, touching on everything from the right to a free appropriate public education to handling children who are unable to wear masks or maintain social distance.

  • Claire’s Place Emergency COVID-19 Fund for Cystic Fibrosis Community

    Claire’s Place offers an Emergency COVID-19 Fund to address the need in the cystic fibrosis community to cover costs of food insecurity and extensive medical and prescription drug co-pays during the pandemic due to isolation or loss of income.

    Claire’s Place is a non-profit organization that provides support to children and families affected by cystic fibrosis.

    HealthyChildren.org’s “Cloth Face Coverings for Children During COVID-19” provides answers to some frequently asked questions about cloth face coverings and children during the COVID-19 pandemic.

  • Coloring Pages for Caregivers

    UIC’s Division of Specialized Care for Children has created adult coloring pages to help caregivers relieve stress and practice mindfulness. Four designs are available in English and Spanish:

  • ComEd Financial Assistance Options

    ComEd offers assistance programs and its Smart Assistance Manager tool (SAM) to help you find the right options. ComEd programs include free energy-saving products, the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), payment and budget billing arrangements, and more.

    Community Action Agencies work with local community organizations and non-profit partners to provide assistance to Illinois families with items including:

  • Community Housing Advocacy & Development (CHAD)

    Community Housing Advocacy & Development (CHAD) is a nonprofit corporation that provides quality, affordable, long-term rental housing to income-qualifying, hardworking individuals and families who struggle to support themselves.

    CHAD has over 500 housing units of all property types in 30 communities across DuPage, Kane, Will and portions of Cook counties in northeastern Illinois. Properties include apartment homes, condominiums, duplexes, townhouses, and single-family homes. CHAD offers below-market rents to income-qualified applicants.

  • CommunityGlo Meal Program

    CommunityGlo is a free hot meal program dedicated to serving Knox County.

    Meals are served one night a week. There are no eligibility requirements to use the program to receive meals.
