Webinar – “Special Education Eligibility & Evaluation: Core”

The Arc of Illinois‘ Family-to-Family Health Information Center and Illinois Life Span Program (ILS) will host “Special Education Eligibility & Evaluation: Core” on Zoom on Aug. 12 from 12 to 1 p.m.
Learn about special education eligibility and evaluation with presenters Megan Mutti, Executive Director of Family Matters Parent Training and Information Center, and Karrie Potter, Family Matters Educational Support Coach.
Megan and Karrie will walk participants through topics, including:
- Identifying three key steps in the Illinois special education eligibility and evaluation process
- Distinguishing the core difference between a medical diagnosis and educational eligibility
- Listing the 14 Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) disability categories used for eligibility in Illinois
- Recognizing three common barriers and potential solutions during the evaluation process
- Understanding two key issues to consider in exploring Independent Educational Evaluation (IEE) options
Megan is a 2023 Illinois Partners in Policymaking Program graduate and a 2020 Family Fellow of the Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and related Disabilities (LEND) Program at the University of Illinois Chicago. Megan is also a Charting the LifeCourse Ambassador and a strong proponent of effective person-centered planning practices.
Karrie has over 20 years of professional experience supporting families navigating special education systems. She is also a parent of an adult child with a disability. She joined Family Matters in 2005 and serves families in 94 Illinois counties.
The webinar is free. It is open to people with disabilities, parents and guardians who want to learn more.
